How did the grow edge approach come about

I was living and working in London, travelling the world for a global communications company until I wasn’t anymore. I couldn’t get out of bed diagnosed with CFS/ME I stayed there for the next 2 years and my new husband become my full time carer.

At that time the best advice known in the world of neurology was ‘don’t do anymore on a good day than you would do on a bad day’. My response was ‘shoot me now’! That was more than 20 years ago when I began my quest for a treatment, a cure and the truth of why I could be so ill. My past had caught up with me, my body said enough, it’s now time to heal and to recover. I didn’t return to work, I couldn’t. I had learnt so much about human behaviour, about being me there was something new to do in my life.

The ‘grow edge’ approach arises out of my life. What I know is grounded in my own recovery and healing as well as rigorous and sometimes challenging training. Spending many weeks, months and years in the so called ‘safety’ of my personal space not realising that I was living inside the edge of that, trying to keep myself safe and free from any further pain and fearing so much of what was beyond that edge. But what I thought was a layer of protection around me was really more like a prison cell, held captive by myself.

The ME/CFS stayed with me for nearly two decades, a condition that was a result of unresolved traumatic events in my life as a child but at the time I didn’t know that.

A long term illness brings along its friend for the ride like depression, insomnia, anxiety, panic attacks, behavioural problems, disconnection, low self worth, no confidence, eating disorders, chronic pain, fears and addictions and mine was no different.

In all my consultations and GP appointments no one discussed trauma and its effects until I happened to find a brilliant therapist, Dr Liz Hall who was trained in many different therapists but after 30- 40 years she was curious about a modality that brought together both mind and body known as sensori-psychotherapy. This way of working helped me to learn how to be more resourced in the day, for the first time in a long time I had space in my head for thinking and learning and I wanted to learn more abut this the mind body connection.

Fast forward 15 years and my quest for a treatment, a cure and the why and how to heal trauma has taken me around the world. I have some wonderful, knowledgeable and challenging mentors and teachers stretching me to learn more and to grow more and help me heal and I am so very grateful to all of them especially Matt Hudson (www.matthudson.com), Dr John Demartini (www.drdemartini.com) and Tanya Cross (www.tanyacross.com)

Now it’s my turn

My mission is to help adults of childhood sexual, physical and emotional trauma who have been imprisoned in both their mind and body by their experiences to create a safe space for their recovery, resolution and revelation of their trauma so they can be seen and heard in the world again.

To be of service to you, to help you, to be the teacher and still be the student. I no longer have the condition ME/CFS sometimes its friends come to visit me and that’s ok, its like getting a text from my body saying, ‘Hi Sue you’ve been triggered, when you’re ready time for more healing and learning’. I don’t always send a text back, sometimes I want the pity party, I am human! But when I don’t answer a text, it beeps again!

I know what it’s like to feel a burden on everyone, imprisoned by my own mind and body, daring not to move or speak in case I upset anyone. It’s taken many many years and many many tears to breakthrough the layers of pain and hurt and if I can help you to find some relief, some space for you, even find a way for recovery and resolution to heal your pain and hurt so you don’t have to suffer another day then my life is worthwhile.

This is my mission, my reason for being, to help you who have experienced trauma, especially child sexual trauma, and you feel you are trapped and imprisoned in your mind and body by your experiences. I want to help you to recover, resolve and find the revelations for healing so you feel safe, confident and worthy to be seen and heard in the world. I know this in my heart to be possible because you are seeing and hearing me.

How we will work together is person centred, you matter, this is an humanistic approach. One size sometimes doesn’t fit all and I have spent years integrating and combining all my training and expertise  in human behaviour, linguistics, the mind body connection and energy together with my own experiences of trauma and ill health so that I can deliver an individualised learning and development program for you. This is like the small print at the bottom of the document that nobody really pays any attentionn to but for me its the most important…I have said that I have had and have some great mentors and teachers and the greatest of them all is my hubby. His patience, kindness, generosity, love and support not to mention being a Doctor, Therpist, Mother and Father for me, showing up each and every day taking my hand and walking wth me on this extraordinary journey has been miraculous. How do I say thank you and I love you to him?

“Steve, thank you and I love you”
